100% Single-Origin Bar

Camino Verde

Ecuador

2023 HARVEST · BATCH no. 1 · By Eric
tasting notes: brownie, cafè latte, roasted peanut

These beans come from Camino Verde Cacao, located in central Ecuador in Duran (near Guayaquil). Vicente Norero buys freshly harvested, unfermented beans from over one hundred farms and associations around Ecuador, and aims to achieve their optimal fermentation and drying, imbuing the beans with nutty notes we love.

To mellow the 2023 harvest's natural tartness and deepen its chocolatiness, Eric applies a medium roast and an extended conche time in the factory.

INGREDIENTS & ALLERGENS

This bar is made with 100% cocoa beans; no added cocoa butter, lecithin, or vanilla. Our chocolate is free of soy, dairy, eggs, and gluten, and it is made in a factory that does not process nuts.

About Camino Verde, Ecuador

Ethical Sourcing

Vicente Norero, the owner and general manager of Camino Verde Cacao, is one of the most innovative cocoa producers we know. His products are always improving through his continual experimentation. We love the flavor of his beans so much that not only do we make two chocolate bars, an 85% and a 100% (not to mention a limited-edition 76% bar in 2017), we also use the chocolate as the base for nearly all of our drinks and many of our pastries in our U.S. cafés.

Vicente notes that beans from the northern part of Esmeraldas are fruity and nutty, while beans from further south are still nutty, but with a floral touch. Camino Verde works with groups in Esmeraldas and Los Ríos to improve fermentation and processing, so that the groups' beans may bring in the best possible price.

We have been working with Vicente for many years, and are excited to witness the growth of his work in Los Ríos and Esmeraldas. We are deeply impressed by his dedication to the pursuit of flavor, as well as the pursuit of better incomes for farmers. Dandelion Chocolate has purchased more beans from Camino Verde than from any other single producer.

Ethical Sourcing

Here at Dandelion, we not only want to work with producers who make good beans (which is hard enough on its own) but also people who share similar values around transparency, accountability, and are looking to maintain long term partnerships. We do our best to live up to the trust they put in us to represent them well not only in the chocolate we make from their beans but ensuring people know where these amazing beans have come from.

We visit our producers as often as possible to maintain our relationships and stay up to date on their operations. Our prices are not determined based on the commodity market but what the producers with whom we work believe is the appropriate price for their product. Often this ends up being several times the market price.
