For this exclusive collaboration, chocolatera Ashley Ugarte, founder of Austin-based Hijita, invites us to experience flavors and stories of her cultural traditions. She hand-crafts two decadent, single-origin Truffle-Bars — each six-piece Bar filled with a textural, house-made praliné, fragrant with micro-batch Mexican spices, and encased in our nutty Agua Escondida, Mexico chocolate.

Ashley attributes her vision for this Collection, and for Hijita, to the strong matriarchs in her life; and as she creates confections to honor her family’s Mexican-American heritage, she brings a personal touch, shaping flavor legacy for future generations to enjoy. To help bring her Truffle-Bar concept to life, we produced an extra-limited batch of the first chocolate we’ve ever crafted from Mexican cocoa beans: 70% Agua Escondida, Mexico. Its complex, roasty notes of pecan, dark chocolate, and oak offer a fitting foundation for a Collection celebrating family and tradition.

One Marranito Pan Dulce Truffle-Bar:

Creamy-crisp almond praliné enhanced with micro-batch allspice, single-origin basiya ginger, organic Mexican vanilla, & freshly ground canela (Ceylon cinnamon); encased in Agua Escondida chocolate

Hijita (pronounced ee-hee-tah) is a small-batch craft chocolate company that showcases single-origin cocoa and botanicals from family farms and co-ops in southern Mexico. Each creation is a reflection of head chocolatier Ashley Ugarte's Mexican-American identity — evoking nostalgic childhood flavors while honoring ancestral traditions. Ashley began her confectionery career at Dandelion Chocolate, where she developed a deep appreciation for the ethical sourcing and technical craftsmanship involved in bean-to-bar chocolate. Inspired by these principles, she founded Hijita to carry them forward while contributing to the environmental sustainability and cultural integrity of Mexican cacao.
